My boyfriend and his family introduced me to Ethel’s Grill, literally, a hole-in-the-wall place in Kalihi. They have been wanting me to try their food for some time and I finally did! So many Japanese tourists line up to eat there. Just like at Boots & Kimo’s in Kailua (see post): Sunday Funday brunch lunch! Thankfully, when we went on a Saturday, it wasn’t too crowded, compared to other days.
It’s a small place, but it’s worth the wait! Their food was delicious- it had a homey feel- if you ask me. The atmosphere reminded me of those old school “mom and pop” joints. Very local. I also felt like the price was very reasonable for the amount of food that was given. See those yummy pics below. I was pretty stuffed at the end of my meal. I definitely want to go back to try more of their grinds.
Toss salad with pesto cream dressing. Yum!
Onolicious miso soup!
Japanese hamburger steak. Broke da mouth! That means it was delicious!
All that was $8.75! You can’t go wrong with that price!
Last, but not least, I had to try their famous side order of tataki sashimi. Seared ahi with ponzu sauce and marinated garlic. Ooh! They also have this as a main dish, and you can order a platter of this for pot lucks and parties.
