Food of Steel!!!

Happy Monday!

I recently educated myself on steel-cut oats. I was shopping at Target the other weekend and came across Quaker’s Steel-Cut Oats. I was intrigued, as I’ve never seen steel-cut oats before. I always see the old-fashioned oats or instant oats. I seriously thought all oats were the same. What was I thinking?!?!

I’m all for eating healthy. Right then and there at Target, I researched what steel-cut oats were. I recently read an article and was informed that they were healthy. I found a wonderful article that compares the three different oats (steel-cut, rolled, and instant): http://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-difference-between-steel-cut-rolled-and-instant-oats-138355

Basically, it’s all about how the oat groat is processed.

Dr. Andrew Weil, explains in this article why he recommends eating steel-cut oats. He says it slows down the sugar conversion process. Another learning moment!

This past weekend, I made myself a bowl and I liked it very much. The texture was definitely different than the traditional oats (aka rolled). It felt more chewy and grainy. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it! …And if it’s healthier, then I’m all for it!

I get so excited when I do my research on foods. Life is all about continuous learning. It’s a lot of work, but it’s so important to take care of our one-and-only body.
