Happy Mardi Gras! That means malasadas!

Happy Fat Tuesday!! It’s also Malasadas Day in Hawai’i!! I found an interesting article that explains what Malasadas Day is: http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/7828211/fat-tuesday-means-malasada-day-in-the-islands.

Here’s an article that explains what Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras is: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/wait-fat-fat-tuesday-article-1.2983822.

Today, my client and I went to Leonard’s Bakery, one of the famous malasadas joints on-island to get our malasadas fix today. Malasadas is a Portuguese donut, without the hole. It’s very light and has a fluffy-type of texture. It’s dipped in sugar and there are some who are filled with chocolate, custard, and haupia (coconut).

I ordered half-a-dozen for my family: three original (regular sugar) and cinnamon. Yummy! My client ordered two: macadamia nut filling and haupia filling.

Visit Leonard’s Bakery. Tons of tourists go to try their famous desserts!

Have a great Lenten season, for those who are practicing! I’m giving up desserts. That’s gonna be a tough one. But I have faith that I can commit to giving this up for 40 days.
